Performance Recap: Melissa Etheridge at the P.C. Richard & Son Theater on April 29, 2010

Posted by on April 30, 2010 at 10:58 am

There was laughter when the MCs jokingly introduced Justin Bieber at the P.C. Richard & Son Theater last night, but the theater roared with the applause of 200 die-hard fans when they really announced who was coming to the stage: Melissa Etheridge. Many had won tickets on the radio or through Melissa’s fan club; others had won on the P.C. Richard Theater website; and more won across our Facebook, Twitter, and blog pages. The theater is more like an intimate club: there is no seating and only about 20 rows of standing. The artists are easily reachable. Many were impressed at just how close they got to see their favorite singer.

Melissa performed 5 songs: No Souvenirs, Fearless Love, Stay With Me, The Wanting, and Like the Way I Do. Stay With Me was a cover of a song also covered by Bette Midler. “All last summer on my solo tour, I would do a solo song. I did all kinds of things, everything from songs I used to do when I was little, to songs I’d never sung, to songs I loved. I think the one song that most people really liked was this song,” she explained to the crowd. “It’s from a movie… well, no, it’s actually an old blues song. [sigh] I meant to get the name of the artist who did it, but I didn’t! I’m sure someone will look it up and tell me.” If you ever get a chance, tell Melissa that it was originally performed by Lorainne Ellison.

Coby Folding Headphones are Awesome for the Office

Posted by on April 27, 2010 at 14:21 pm

As I’m writing this blog post at our corporate headquarters, I’m streaming Pandora radio and listening to it through blue Coby sound isolation headphones. I HAD to write about them, because they’re really great quality and only $19.99!

Before buying these headphones, I couldn’t listen to music as much as I wanted to throughout the day with my Apple iPod earbuds because they got really uncomfortable in my ears after a while. I normally prefer earbuds over regular headphones because they tend to drown out more outside noise, but I thought that it was time to try out regular headphones anyway. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on headphones I’d only wear at the office and potentially not like wearing, so these inexpensive noise-canceling folding headphones really caught my eye. I was sold when I saw they also had an earbud combo, just in case I really didn’t end up liking big, regular headphones on my head.

7 Great Mother’s Day Gifts for less than $100

Posted by on April 26, 2010 at 15:40 pm

Show your mother how much you appreciate her this year with a great gift from P.C. Richard & Son! We have some superb electronics for under $100 that your mom is sure to appreciate. If you’re looking for a fitting gift you know she’ll use, keep reading!

Mp3 Player
Mp3 players are the most convenient way for Mom to take her favorite music with her. Many also come with radio tuners, so if she gets bored of what she had on there (which would be difficult as many Mp3 players under $100 can have as much as 8GB of storage, or hold about 1,750 songs), she can still listen to something new. Plus, they come in great colors! You can check out all the MP3 players we have available here, but we highly recommend the Apple 2GB Pink iPod Shuffle or Lyra 8GB MP3 Player for Mom.

Winners will each receive 2 tickets to Etheridge’s intimate performance on Thursday, March 29 at our P.C. Richard & Son Theater.

How did we calculate the results? We made 3 lists of all the correct Facebook quiz entries, Melissa Etheridge ticket retweets and comments on our blog (as laid out in this post), and then put each list through the Random Thingy Chooser found here. Congrats to Misty P., Matts S., Meg K., Dominick M. and Diane K. on Facebook, @hugsy2k and @youbet59 on Twitter, and Ann, John S. and ROCKFANATIC on our blog! I look forward to meeting you all at the show to take pictures and hear how you enjoy this private performance.

Happy Earth Day! P.C. Richard & Son Green Initiatives and How You Can Help

Posted by on April 22, 2010 at 09:38 am

Happy Earth Day! Earth Day is a celebration of environmental protection and inspires awareness to our planet’s health every April 22. Did you know that P.C. Richard & Son promotes recycling, energy-saving appliances and green initiatives all year round? Here are a few ways we help protect the environment and some suggestions on great green products for your home.

What We Do
We here at P.C. Richard & Son deal with a lot of plastic, cardboard and Styrofoam with product packaging. We break down all cardboard boxes that hold all orders we receive and separate it from any plastic and Styrofoam that is also included in the packaging. The plastic and Styrofoam is collected and cardboard grouped into bails to be sent to a recycling plant where it is reused and repurposed. Our Deer Park Clearance Center alone sees four to five hundred boxes ever week and a half or so, so that’s tens of thousands of pounds of cardboard, plastic and Styrofoam recycled every year from our 60 locations.
