Interview Recap: Breakfast with Glee at the P.C. Richard & Son Theater!

100+ Glee fans took an early start to the Memorial Day weekend by having breakfast with the cast at the P.C. Richard & Son Theater this morning! Tickets were won on the P.C. Richard & Son Theater site, as well as on the air at Z100 and these lucky fans were able to see the cast of their favorite show being interviewed by Z100’s Elvis Duran and the Morning Show.

The theater was decorated to look like a classroom with chalkboard drawings depicting the Glee logo and characters from the show. The Elvis Duran morning crew sat at a teacher’s desk, and Glee cast members Kevin McHale (Artie), Cory Monteith (Finn), Mark Salling (“Puck”), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Naya Rivera (Santana) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) sat across from them as students to answer questions from the morning show, callers, and audience members.

The Morning Show asked, “You guys were in Chicago doing your live show a couple of nights ago. Even though it takes a lot of time to put the TV show together, what’s it like putting a stage show together for the cast of Glee?”

Cory was the first to answer. “I think it’s less work than the TV show. It’s very exciting, because we’re on stage live doing it, but the hours are actually longer doing the show in LA.”

“It was kind of amazing to realize how many songs we’d actually remembered from shooting them and then reworking them for the stage,” Jenna added. “We did remember a lot of choreography.”

An audience member asked what their favorite song was to perform in terms of choreography. “Push It,” they all replied.

“You know what it was, we had been rehearsing it for three weeks and nobody had seen it,” Kevin explained, “and then when we first showed up to set that morning we had to show the crew. Number one, their jaws just dropped and they were like, ‘Oh, wow’.”

“We could hear gasps,” Amber added.

“And then later on in the day we had like 400 extras and they didn’t know what they were about to see, either. So we were behind the curtain like ‘Heh heh heh heh heh…'” Kevin continued, placing his hands together and wiggling his fingers with an evil grin.

“When we first started choreographing the number, our original notes were, ‘it needs to be more offensive.’ So it was good,” smiled Cory.

The Push It performance premiered on the second episode, Showmance. In an attempt to bring more attention to the Glee club and recruit more members, they put on a school assembly. The crew and extras’ jaws dropped for a reason: after the performance, the crowd erupts, and the Glee club and director’s job are put in jeopardy. The school then pays for new, modest Glee Club costumes.

“Mind you, we were grinding on one another and barely knew each other,” Amber laughed. Jenna added, “We got real close real fast.” Amber said that the one time she wasn’t really comfortable with something in the series was that performance.

After a few more questions, an audience member asked, “In the show, how many times did you have to shoot [the famous slushie scene], and what does it feel like?”

“It… feels like a bag of needles being slammed in your face,” Amber said.  “Some people got fake slushies, and they said they looked too fake, so they went back. By the time it was my turn to get slushied, they went back to real ice. So it doesn’t feel good at all.”

Who are the cast picks for artist guest appearances on upcoming episodes? They suggested Janet Jackson and Hayley Williams from Paramore immediately, and wouldn’t be surprised about a full Beatles episode. When asked if Britney Spears may be coming to the show, they admitted that they really do only find out who appears last minute, but “we would love it if she did.” They also hope for a heavy metal episode, which may already be in the works as Glee writer/director Ryan Murphy mentioned in a different interview.

Elvis asked how they felt about performing at Radio City Music Hall tonight as part of their live tour. “This is the first time my family will see it because I’m from New York,” Jenna explained, “so it’s kind of crazy to be able to come and play your home town and experience Radio City which is like a once-in-a-lifetime [performance] we never thought we would do.”

“For a lot of us, this is our first time going to Radio City Music Hall, and this is the first time we’re going to be performing [there], so… it’s going to be, yeah,” Amber added with a smile, obviously excited for their performance ahead.

Here are some tips we got from the interview: you may expect a tell-all book from Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel), who was jokingly predicted to be the one who would out all behind-the-scenes secrets of the show, similar to Dustin “Screech” Diamond’s book about the popular 90’s teen sitcom, Saved by the Bell. “It would be a good book… I’d wanna read it,” Kevin said. Maybe some cast member romances would be revealed?

While you’re waiting for the book, you may want to start a website about the Glee cast member you would most want to date. Danielle Monaro of the Morning Show mentioned to Mark how nice it was that he offered webmaster of http://www.iwantadatewithmarksalling.com/, Ashley Faith, two tickets from his own allotment for Sunday’s Radio City Music Hall show. “Yeah, it’s true,” Mark blushed while looking down and bashfully running his hand over his hair, but allegedly denied giving her a date.

Throughout the interview, the Morning Show, callers, and audience members kept saying how much Glee has impacted their lives and music and performing arts programs in schools nationwide. Caller Sherese spoke about her children and their love for Glee. “She auditioned for an arts high school and got in… We’ve been able to expose her to songs from The Wiz, Funny Girl and Barbara Streisand, and things that would never, ever reach her iPod in any other venue.  But because we’ve really gravitated towards the show and bought the DVD set and have the CDs at home, it’s a constant sound in my house now because the girls have just gravitated towards it, loved it, and really want to know more about [the performing arts].”

For more answers to questions, including how Kevin performs in a wheelchair, how long song rehearsals are, how they feel about the show’s popularity, future love interests between the characters, auditioning and more (including question’s that weren’t on the radio), watch the entire interview at ElvisDuran.com and get backstage access! You can watch Glee on Fox.

How To: Beat the Heat

We’ve already covered how to choose the best air conditioner for you and what you need to know to keep it running like new, so, putting A/Cs aside for now, here are some additional ways you can keep cool in this weather:

  • At night, open your windows and turn on any ceiling fans so that they are spinning counter-clockwise to circulate the air. In the morning, close the windows to trap the cooler air inside while it lasts (especially during peak heat times of 10am – 2pm). Closing your blinds and curtains will help the cooler air last longer, espeically on the south or west sides of your home where the sun beats most.
  • Avoid caffeine close to bedtime, as it raises body temperature.
  • Turn off the computer, stereo, TV, desk lamp or any electronic that generates heat when not in use.
  • Wear loose, light-colored cotton or linen clothing to give your skin air to breathe.
  • Placing a container of ice in front of a window or fan can act like a mini-A/C and offers surprisingly satisfying relief.
  • Take on the town! Get out and peruse your town’s shops, restaurants, or libraries that have air conditioning. Hot afternoons are the perfect time to run errands and go to the supermarket.
  • Put mint in a glass of water or use skin care products infused with it to refresh yourself with a nice cooling sensation.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables with high water content, including leafy lettuces, corn on the cob, cucumbers, watermelon, and summer squash. You can also sweat out the heat with spicy foods like hot peppers, fresh ginger, horseradish, and black pepper.
  • Alternatively and surprisingly enough, try to avoid ingesting foods that are lower than your actual body temperature. Ice cream will initially cool you off for 15 minutes or so, but your body will soon increase blood flow to warm you back up.

Here is a recipe that uses two of the cooling foods we’ve listed above that avoids heating up any appliances and will keep your family refreshed:

Recipe: Watermelon Salad with Mint Leaves

Prep time: 20 minutes; Yields: 6 servings

  • 1 (5-pound) watermelon
  • 1 Vidalia or other sweet onion
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
  • 4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 6 whole mint sprigs

Cut the flesh from the melon and cut into bite size pieces, removing and discarding the seeds, and set aside. Peel and slice the onion into rings.

In a small bowl, combine the vinegar, salt, pepper, and whisk until salt is dissolved. Slowly whisk in the olive oil, a few drops at a time. Add in the chopped mint, taste, and adjust seasonings.

In a large bowl, combine the melon, onion, and feta. Pour the dressing over the melon mixture and toss gently until everything is coated and evenly mixed. Garnish with mint sprigs.

To serve, divide salad among individual plates and garnish with mint leaves.

About Sharp Quattron TVs: “Ooooh, Myyyy!”

3D TV has been the talk of new TV technology lately, but there’s a new 2D technology coming into play, too. You’ve probably seen the great TV commercials featuring George Takei in a white lab coat explaining Sharp’s newest advancement: “Quattron” quad pixel Technology. But what is this crazy “quad-pixel” talk and what’s so different about it?

Normally, televisions display colors using a series of red, green and blue pixels that come together to form a bigger picture. Quattron TVs display these same pictures with yellow added to the palette, which lets you see never-before-seen colors on your TV. These TVs are Energy Star 5.0 compliant, which is the strictest Energy Star level yet. The yellow pixels produce a brighter picture and therefore promotes lower power consumption by using the LED backlight more efficiently. If you’re looking for a television with excellent color depth and richness, then this is the TV for you.

Quattron TVs also have Sharp’s app suite, Aquos Net, included and allows you to do things like stream video from your Netflix account, check weather/sports scores, play games and more. It also has a USB connection that allows playback of various multimedia files, including photos, music and video, and has a hard drive that allows you to pause and rewind live TV.

There’s a lot to see with the Sharp Quattron series of televisions, and it can only be seen in person. Stop by any P.C. Richard & Son Superstore to see the amazing Quattron quad-pixel Technology yourself! You can also see what we have available on our website.

5 Things You Need to Know About Air Conditioners

When the temperatures rise an increase in air conditioner use is the result, there are some important things you should know about your units. Here are 5 things to watch out for and techniques for increasing the life and efficiency of your air conditioners.

1. Change the filter often during the cooling season

While your air conditioner is cooling you off, it’s acting as an air purifier as it prevents outside debris from blowing into your home. When was the last time you took a look at your unit’s air filter? Cleaning or changing it will increase efficiency, decrease your energy bill, and can potentially benefit your family’s health. Make a mental note to clean the filter at least once a month in the summer to keep your A/C running like new.

2. Leaks can affect the performance of your air conditioner

Window A/C units are always difficult to seal correctly. To see if you have a leak around your windows, light a stick of incense and hold it where the unit and window frame meet. If the smoke blows around, there’s a leakage. Nothing a little foam, tape or weather seals can’t fix!

3. You can increase efficiency by placing the unit on the north or east side of your house

The sun, the reason why we need air conditioners in the first place, can really affect the output of your units. Try to shield them from the sun as much as possible, as putting them in direct sunlight reduces their efficiency by up to 10%.

4. Shield the unit inside, too

Increase the life of your unit by closing blinds and shades around the unit when you are not in the room. You should also consider running floor or ceiling fans (that are turning counter-clockwise) as well to aid in cooling. The air conditioner doesn’t need to work as hard and will therefore last longer. Plus, fans will move the dry air your air conditioner dehumidifies around.

5. Air conditioners have changed considerably from 10 years ago

Cooling technology and federal laws for efficiency have come a long way since the last time you may have purchased a window unit; the investment you make now could very well pay for itself over time. When purchasing a new unit, check the energy efficiency ratio, or EER. Devices with higher numbers will cost less to operate.

Ask your P.C. Richard & Son sales associate or click our live chat help on any product page on our website for information on how to keep cool this season. You can also check out our Learning Center for informational videos on air conditioners.

9 Great Wii Games for Parties

The Nintendo Wii is the best console to bring out at parties and gatherings. The motion-sensing technology and wide variety of multiplayer games ensure that everyone has a great time, even if they don’t normally play video games! Here are some of our favorite Wii games to bust out at parties. Which one’s your favorite?

Wii Sports & Wii Sports Resort
Considering Wii Sports has been bundled with every new Wii console since its launch, everyone should have it in their collection. The new Wii console bundles (in black or white) come with both Wii Sports and the newer Wii Sports Resort, but if you’re not going to be shelling out the money for a brand new console it’s worth purchasing Resort separately. Between the two titles, you have tennis, bowling, golf, baseball, boxing, swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, power cruising, canoeing, cycling and air sports for your entertainment pleasure. The learning curve on these games is slim, but everyone from non-gamers to hardcore players will enjoy and be on a level playing field.

Wii Play
Wii Play is a favorite because it not only has entertaining games, but comes with an extra controller too! Play against a friend in the shooting range to see who can hit the most frisbees, soda cans or UFOs, play a Where’s Waldo-like game with your Miis, pose your Mii faster than your opponent to fit a multitude of falling shapes, race cows and topple scarecrows, destroy your opponents tank, fish, play laser hockey, shoot billiards, or compete in table tennis. This is a great bargain for a controller and game bundle.

Mario Party 8
In Mario Party 8, players choose their favorite character from the Super Mario Bros. universe and compete against each other in a board game-like competition. Each board has its own set of rules, but the ultimate goal is to collect as many stars as you possibly can as you navigate around the spaces. Each round ends in one of 80 mini-games that grant players coins to purchase more stars. A default 15-turn game will run for about an hour, but you can choose anywhere from 10-50 rounds per game. You can use the cards you earn for winning games to purchase unlockable addons, or compete in even more mini-games in the Star Arena tent using your Miis.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
This critically-acclaimed title is a side-scrolling fighting game that includes 35 characters from your favorite Nintendo titles, including Mario, Luigi, Link, Zelda, Fox, Donkey and Diddy Kong, Pikachu, Samus, Solid Snake, Sonic the Hedgehog and more. Super Smash Brothers Brawl offers multiple modes, fighting stages and rules, an in-game achievement system and online multiplayer to keep you coming back for more. Players can play against each other in the fighting arena or cooperatively in the Subspace Emissary adventure as you fight your way to unlock new characters.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
In Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, play as your favorite Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog character and compete in alpine skiing, ice hockey, speed skating, bobsledding, figure skating, snowboarding (both halfpipe and cross), skeleton, and freestyle skiing moguls. Some of the events also take advantage of the Wii balance board that comes with Wii Fit, but you don’t need it to enjoy the games. Players can compete in individual games or partake (either every player for themselves or in teams) in a full Olympic competition with opening and closing ceremonies.

New Super Mario Brothers Wii
Looking for a little chaos during your next game-playing party? New Super Mario Brothers is the game for you! Navigate your way through old-school-style, side-scrolling Super Mario levels with up to 4 players as you cooperate and compete against each other. Mario, Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies (or their fellow players). In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform – and then tilt it incorrectly just to mess with other players. You’ll either love or hate your friends as you navigate through this game, but you’ll be laughing the whole time either way.

Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 3
Get up and move with Dance Dance Revolution! This game uses its own dance pad and players match the scrolling arrows to the rhythm and corresponding buttons on the pad. New features include a fresh workout mode, story mode, kid’s mode and DDR School to teach you how to move around the pad. Hip rolls and bump arrows can optionally appear in-game for a better workout as you punch while moving your hips. The music is catchy and features 60 songs like Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance,” Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me,” Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and other great party music. The game is also compatible with the Wii balance board and remote/nunchucks.

Game Party
Game Party offers an arcade right in your home and includes darts, air hockey, shuffleboard, hoop shoot, skee ball, ping cup and trivia. The trivia game includes five rounds with three questions in each category (sports, kids, general knowledge, music, movies/TV, and history). The faster you answer, the more points you get. You can’t play with your Miis in this game, but it includes 175 characters with a variety of styles that are fun to browse. 125 of the characters are initially available, and 50 characters are unlockable.

Family Party: Winter Fun (30 Games)
Family Party 30 Great Games Winter Fun has 30 brand new games with a winter theme, offering hours of extreme winter sports competition and snow play for up to 4 players. Indulge in winter wonderland surroundings from the comfort of home. Games include snowboarding, skiing, skating, hockey, tubing, snowball fighting, ice races and more. This game is great for kids who want to beat the heat this summer and get inspired by some winter fun. The controls may be difficult to learn at first, but after mastering them it’s a lot of fun! Four players can play at the same time.

de Blob
Players use the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo to maneuver their hero, de Blob. His goal is to replace the drab, lifeless gray coloring that the I.N.K.T. Corporation has imposed on Chroma City and its inhabitants, the Raydians, with a range of vibrant life-giving colors, all the while avoiding and battling the gray-clad forces of the Inkies. Players must acquire paint and hurl de Blob at the buildings, walls, statues, roads and skies above Chroma City. As de Blob bounces around, adding color wherever he lands, his supply of paint is depleted and he begins to dry out. As this happens players must collect more paint and rehydrate in pools and in front of hydrants scattered across the city. Players can compete for control as ink levels rise and wind cannons fire in eight multiplayer-specific gameplay modes.

All of these games qualify for the P.C. Richard & Son Video Game Rewards Program, where you can earn points toward a $50 gift card good for any purchase! Our Video Game Rewards Program is free to join and definitely worth checking out. For more information, check out our post here.

P.C. Richard & Son’s Pat Dehner Talks Home Theater Systems on Fox News Connecticut

You may have seen Pat Dehner on TV in New York talking about the hottest products from P.C. Richard & Son before. He’s now made his way to Connecticut to talk to our friends at Fox News about how to create and organize your own home theater system! Here is the clip of Pat explaining everything home theater from May 14:

“When it comes to home theater, it’s not just the picture,” Pat explained, “but it’s also the sound.” First, Pat talked about the Sony Blu-Ray Home Theater System with 5.1 surround sound, Blu-Ray player, and 285 watt subwoofer. It comes with 5 speakers: 2 for rear channel, 2 for front channel, and a center channel for the dialogue. The subwoofer handles the low-frequency sounds and effects. This system gives you complete surround sound and really makes you feel like you’re in the movie’s environment. It also comes with an iPod dock to experience surround sound quality for your music, too.

Not interested in wiring your living room for surround sound? Try the Samsung 2.1 Surround Sound Home Theater System! This 2.1 surround sound system has a built-in Blu-Ray player, iPod dock, soundbar that delivers virtual surround sound, and wireless subwoofer to make setup as easy and painless as possible. The virtual surround sound bounces off of your environment and makes it sound like you have 5 wired speakers around your room. It’s also wall-mountable so you can install it right under your mounted TV and equipped with Samsung’s “Smart Volume” technology for volume level adjustments on-the-fly for superb listening levels without the need to continually pick up the remote. It also offers seamless playback of video, photos, or music from digital devices such as media players, mobile phones, and digital cameras, using either the built-in USB port or Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

When you have a great sound system, you’re going to need a great TV to go along with it. The new Sharp Quattron “Quad Pixel” technology takes the standard red, green and blue pixel structure and adds yellow into the mix for a vibrant, enhanced picture quality.

We have many home theater systems available on our website. If you have any questions on them, talk to your P.C. Richard & Son sales associate or click our live chat banner on any product page for more information!
