Motorola Xoom and Nintendo 3DS are Redefining Technology

Two highly-anticipated and well-received devices were released this weekend and are available both in-store and online at P.C. Richard & Son: the Motorola Xoom and Nintendo 3DS. These devices are paving the way for new technologies and are certainly worth taking a look at.

Motorola Xoom

The Motorola Xoom won the Best of Show award at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show and sets itself apart from all other tablets with its look and feel. It runs on the Android 3.0 platform which is specifically optimized for large-screen devices and features five customizable home screens that you can easily access your favorite live widgets or application shortcuts. Each screen features a familiar launcher with access to all installed applications, as well as a Search box for universal search of apps, contacts, media files, web content, and more.

This tablet features a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chats over Wi-Fi via Google Talk, as well as a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera (with LED flash for stills) that captures video in 720p HD. The 10.1-inch display delivers console-like gaming performance on its 1280 x 800-pixel display, and it features a built-in gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer, and adaptive lighting for new types of applications.

Other features include a 32 GB internal memory, memory expansion via optional microSD cards (with future software upgrade), 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networking, Bluetooth for hands-free devices and stereo music streaming, access to personal and corporate e-mail, HD 1080p video playback, HDMI output for connecting to a compatible HDTV or monitor, and a 3250 mAh battery for up to 10 hours of Wi-Fi internet browsing.

Order your Motorola Xoom today and receive free shipping or pick it up from your nearest Superstore to start connecting immediately.

Nintendo 3DS

Play portable games for the first time in 3D without glasses and immerse yourself on a whole new plane. The level of 3D you experience (or playing the traditional 2D) is entirely customizable via a slider on the right-hand side of the top screen.

In addition to the familiar + Control Pad and button controls found on previous Nintendo hand-helds, Nintendo 3DS now also includes a Circle Pad, which provides a full 360 degrees of direction, giving it the freedom and precision needed to play games in 3D worlds. A built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor can react to the motion and tilt of the system, so whether players are twisting their systems side to side or moving them up and down, their motion-compatible Nintendo 3DS games respond instantly.

Each Nintendo 3DS system comes pre-loaded with a variety of fun games, applications and features, such as Nintendo 3DS Camera. One camera points at the user, while two additional cameras point outward. These two outer cameras take photos in 3D. The fun, built-in game “Face Raiders” asks users to shoot at funny depictions of their own faces.

The console also promotes physical activity. When put into Sleep Mode it can act as a pedometer, letting users earn Play Coins for the steps they take that can then be traded in for additional content in compatible games and applications. By accessing the Activity Log, users can check their steps as well as their play time.

The Nintendo 3DS can be picked up in-store or ordered online in your choice of cosmo black or aqua blue . There are a variety of 3D-compatible game titles already available.

Which of these electronics were you looking forward to most? Weigh in in the comments.

9 Great Wii Games for Parties

The Nintendo Wii is the best console to bring out at parties and gatherings. The motion-sensing technology and wide variety of multiplayer games ensure that everyone has a great time, even if they don’t normally play video games! Here are some of our favorite Wii games to bust out at parties. Which one’s your favorite?

Wii Sports & Wii Sports Resort
Considering Wii Sports has been bundled with every new Wii console since its launch, everyone should have it in their collection. The new Wii console bundles (in black or white) come with both Wii Sports and the newer Wii Sports Resort, but if you’re not going to be shelling out the money for a brand new console it’s worth purchasing Resort separately. Between the two titles, you have tennis, bowling, golf, baseball, boxing, swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, power cruising, canoeing, cycling and air sports for your entertainment pleasure. The learning curve on these games is slim, but everyone from non-gamers to hardcore players will enjoy and be on a level playing field.

Wii Play
Wii Play is a favorite because it not only has entertaining games, but comes with an extra controller too! Play against a friend in the shooting range to see who can hit the most frisbees, soda cans or UFOs, play a Where’s Waldo-like game with your Miis, pose your Mii faster than your opponent to fit a multitude of falling shapes, race cows and topple scarecrows, destroy your opponents tank, fish, play laser hockey, shoot billiards, or compete in table tennis. This is a great bargain for a controller and game bundle.

Mario Party 8
In Mario Party 8, players choose their favorite character from the Super Mario Bros. universe and compete against each other in a board game-like competition. Each board has its own set of rules, but the ultimate goal is to collect as many stars as you possibly can as you navigate around the spaces. Each round ends in one of 80 mini-games that grant players coins to purchase more stars. A default 15-turn game will run for about an hour, but you can choose anywhere from 10-50 rounds per game. You can use the cards you earn for winning games to purchase unlockable addons, or compete in even more mini-games in the Star Arena tent using your Miis.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
This critically-acclaimed title is a side-scrolling fighting game that includes 35 characters from your favorite Nintendo titles, including Mario, Luigi, Link, Zelda, Fox, Donkey and Diddy Kong, Pikachu, Samus, Solid Snake, Sonic the Hedgehog and more. Super Smash Brothers Brawl offers multiple modes, fighting stages and rules, an in-game achievement system and online multiplayer to keep you coming back for more. Players can play against each other in the fighting arena or cooperatively in the Subspace Emissary adventure as you fight your way to unlock new characters.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
In Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, play as your favorite Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog character and compete in alpine skiing, ice hockey, speed skating, bobsledding, figure skating, snowboarding (both halfpipe and cross), skeleton, and freestyle skiing moguls. Some of the events also take advantage of the Wii balance board that comes with Wii Fit, but you don’t need it to enjoy the games. Players can compete in individual games or partake (either every player for themselves or in teams) in a full Olympic competition with opening and closing ceremonies.

New Super Mario Brothers Wii
Looking for a little chaos during your next game-playing party? New Super Mario Brothers is the game for you! Navigate your way through old-school-style, side-scrolling Super Mario levels with up to 4 players as you cooperate and compete against each other. Mario, Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies (or their fellow players). In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform – and then tilt it incorrectly just to mess with other players. You’ll either love or hate your friends as you navigate through this game, but you’ll be laughing the whole time either way.

Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 3
Get up and move with Dance Dance Revolution! This game uses its own dance pad and players match the scrolling arrows to the rhythm and corresponding buttons on the pad. New features include a fresh workout mode, story mode, kid’s mode and DDR School to teach you how to move around the pad. Hip rolls and bump arrows can optionally appear in-game for a better workout as you punch while moving your hips. The music is catchy and features 60 songs like Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance,” Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me,” Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and other great party music. The game is also compatible with the Wii balance board and remote/nunchucks.

Game Party
Game Party offers an arcade right in your home and includes darts, air hockey, shuffleboard, hoop shoot, skee ball, ping cup and trivia. The trivia game includes five rounds with three questions in each category (sports, kids, general knowledge, music, movies/TV, and history). The faster you answer, the more points you get. You can’t play with your Miis in this game, but it includes 175 characters with a variety of styles that are fun to browse. 125 of the characters are initially available, and 50 characters are unlockable.

Family Party: Winter Fun (30 Games)
Family Party 30 Great Games Winter Fun has 30 brand new games with a winter theme, offering hours of extreme winter sports competition and snow play for up to 4 players. Indulge in winter wonderland surroundings from the comfort of home. Games include snowboarding, skiing, skating, hockey, tubing, snowball fighting, ice races and more. This game is great for kids who want to beat the heat this summer and get inspired by some winter fun. The controls may be difficult to learn at first, but after mastering them it’s a lot of fun! Four players can play at the same time.

de Blob
Players use the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo to maneuver their hero, de Blob. His goal is to replace the drab, lifeless gray coloring that the I.N.K.T. Corporation has imposed on Chroma City and its inhabitants, the Raydians, with a range of vibrant life-giving colors, all the while avoiding and battling the gray-clad forces of the Inkies. Players must acquire paint and hurl de Blob at the buildings, walls, statues, roads and skies above Chroma City. As de Blob bounces around, adding color wherever he lands, his supply of paint is depleted and he begins to dry out. As this happens players must collect more paint and rehydrate in pools and in front of hydrants scattered across the city. Players can compete for control as ink levels rise and wind cannons fire in eight multiplayer-specific gameplay modes.

All of these games qualify for the P.C. Richard & Son Video Game Rewards Program, where you can earn points toward a $50 gift card good for any purchase! Our Video Game Rewards Program is free to join and definitely worth checking out. For more information, check out our post here.

Pre-order Your Black Nintendo Wii Today, Have it Shipped Monday

The swanky new Nintendo Wii in black is now available for pre-order! If you place your order this weekend, the console will be shipped to you on Monday. This is a great item for those who aim to color-coordinate with their other media devices, don’t already have a coveted Wii console, or simply like the way it looks better. Wii controllers and nunchucks in black have already been on the market, so don’t worry about matching accessories! This offer is online only until the end of the month.

The Nintendo Wii is the most affordable console on the market and prides itself on its family-oriented games. All new Wii packages (for both black and white consoles) will now come with one Wii Remote controller, one Nunchuck controller and Wii Sports as the previous bundle did, but Nintendo has added Wii Sports Resort and the Wii MotionPlus controller accessory as well. Wii MotionPlus enhances the accuracy of the motion-sensing technology to make gameplay even more entertaining.

So what’s new in Wii Sports Resort? This title gets you 12 new games, including swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling and air sports. All sports are 4-player friendly and usually only require one controller between them, so you can have a ton of fun without buying any additional accessories. However, canoeing requires a controller for each player, so check here for Wii accessories.

Now’s your time to jump on the Wii bandwagon and have the slickest console on your block. Make sure to order yours today, because they may not last long!
